Why the space under a raised house stays wet
Most of Denham Springs and Walker is on slab, but the older houses in the Antique Village, the river camps at Port Vincent and French Settlement, and the raised homes toward Lake Maurepas sit on piers or blocks over open ground. That ground is a few feet above the water table in a good year. Walk the outside of the house after a rain and see whether water is standing against the skirting or the piers. Look in the closets on the outside walls for a stain at the baseboard. Note whether the smell is stronger in humid weather or after the washing machine runs.
